Description

The new Wema multi-function touchscreen gauge has a high-definition 4.2" display.

It is robust and waterproof (IP67), designed for the toughest marine environments.

It can either be connected to analogue resistance sensors or to a NMEA2000 or J1939 network.

The are a choice of four different face colours and eight different styles to choose from.

Delivered with one 1m NMEA2000 drop cable with female and male connectors and one cable for analogue connection (instead of NMEA2000 connection).

Gauge Display Settings

• Style settings: There are eight different styles to choose between. It is also possible to change style using the up and down arrows on the gauge page.
• Colour settings: There are four different background colours to choose between; White, Black, Grey or Blue.
• RPM/Speed range: The RPM range can be set on either 4000, 6000 or 8000 RPM. The speed range can be set on either 15, 30 or 60.

Multi-function settings

• Speed unit can be set on either Knots, Km/h or MPH.
• Temperature unit can be set on either Celsius or Fahrenheit.
• Pressure unit can be set on either Bar or PSI.
• Brightness: There are ten different levels of brightness that can be set.

Multi-function Gauge Alarm Settings

• Fuel level: Choose the level for fuel level alarm.
• Water temp.: Choose the temperature for coolant water alarm. Normal alarm level is 95°C.
• Oil pressure: Choose the level for oil pressure alarm.
• Volt meter: Choose the level for voltage alarm. Normal is 10,5 volt.

GPS Settings

• GPS antenna: If the gauge is connected to analogue signals this is to be chosen.
• NMEA2K network: If the gauge is connected to a NMEA2000 network this is to be chosen.

Since the Wema MFG can receive information either from the NMEA2000 network or from analogue signals, you need to choose which signals should be used.

NMEA2000 connection
1. For NMEA2000 signals, connect the NMEA2000 cable to the MFG and into a T-connector in the NMEA2000 backbone.
2. Enter the Settings by pressing the symbol which is found in the bottom of the gauge.
3. Enter Input select and choose and choose NMEA2000.
4. Enter GPS setting and choose NMEA2K network.

Analogue connection
For analogue signals, use the analogue signal cable which consists of two cables; one two corded power cable and one four corded signal cable.
1. Connect the two corded power cable to ground (black) and +12/24 volt (red)
2. Connect the four corded signal cable to analogue sensors according to below;
• Red – RPM (tachometer)
• Blue – Fuel level
• Yellow – Coolant temperature
• Black – Oil pressure
3. If not all signal cables are used, make sure they are properly isolated and cannot come in contact with the power cable.
4. Connect the grey connector to the backside of the MFG (IV).
5. Connect the analogue GPS antenna to the backside of the MFG (IV).
6. Install the analogue GPS antenna horizontally, outside of the vessel and ensure it
faces the sky for receiving the signals, according to Fig.1.
7. If the GPS antenna is installed as shown in Fig.2, the reception of GPS signal will be
impacted.
8. If the GPS antenna is installed as shown in Fig.3, it will have a big impact on the GPS
signal, and the signal might not even be received.
9. It takes about one minute for the MFG to receive the GPS signal when the gauge is
powered on (the initial positioning may take 1-2 minutes).
10. Enter the Settings by pressing the symbol which is found in the bottom of the gauge.
11. Enter Input select and choose Analogue.
12. Enter GPS setting and choose GPS Antenna.

1. Make sure there is enough space for the gauge and the cable. You will need a minimum clearance at 85 mm behind the instrument panel to fit the MFG.
2. Drill a 135 mm hole in the panel (II).
3. Remove fastening ring (I)
4. Make sure the seal ring is in place before placing the MFG in the panel from the front.
Fit and tighten fastening ring (I) from the rear.

To supply a replacement fuel or water sender we just need to know:

  • What type of sender do you have?

  • What resistance is it?

  • How long is it?

  • How many wires does it have?

  • What type of tank is it being fitted into?

  • What is the Wema product code?

Identifying a Wema sender

Do you have an S3 or S5 sender?

The S3 sender has a screw in head with a 1.25" BSP thread like this:

[NOTE: A 1.25" BSP (British Standard Pipe) thread will actually measure larger than 1.25 inches when measured with a tape measure. This is because a BSP measurement refers to the internal bore of a pipe (for accurate flow rate) and not the outside of the thread.]

What resistance is your current sender and gauge?

The sender and gauge must have the same resistance values or the gauge will read incorrectly.

You can either test the gauge or the sender to find this out.

To test the sender:
  • Disconnect the two wires on top of the sender.

  • Remove the sender from the tank.

  • Connect the wires on the sender to a multimeter.

  • Set the multimeter to resistance [Ω ohms]

  • Move the float to the top of the sender and take a reading on the multimeter:

    • At the top of the sender (full) the resistance should be:

      • European specification - 190 ohms

      • American specification - 30 ohms

  • Move the float to the bottom of the sender and take a second reading:

    • At the bottom of the sender (empty) the resistance should be:

      • European specification - 0 ohms

      • American specification - 240 ohms

To test the gauge:

If you have access to the wires on the back of the gauge;

  • Power the gauge off

  • Disconnect the black wire (sender)

  • Power the gauge on

  • If it's an American gauge the needle will show EMPTY

    • Touch the black wire to earth, the needle will go to FULL

  • If it's a European gauge the needle will show FULL

    • Touch the black wire to earth, the needle will go to EMPTY

If you don't have access to the back of the gauge;

  • Disconnect the two wires in the loom that attach to the sender.

    • If it's an American gauge the needle will show EMPTY

    • If it's a European gauge the needle will show FULL

Length?

To measure an S3 or S3H sender (with screw in head) measure from the top of the thread to the bottom of the stem.

How to measure Wema S3 sender

To measure an S5 sender (with bolt down head) measure from the underside of the flange to the bottom of the stem

How to measure Wema S5 sender

How many wires?

If your S5 or S3 sender has 2 wires then it is a standard resistance sender.

If your S5 or S3 sender has 3 or 4 wires then it is either a 0-5v, 0-10v sender or it has a high/low level alarm.

If you have a 3 or 4 wire sender then please contact us before ordering.

If your sender has a high or low level alarm we will need to know if the switch is normally off (when the tank is empty), turning on when the tank is full or normally on, turning off when the tank is full. We will also need to know how far from the top or bottom of the sender you would like the alarm switch to be.

Tank Contents?

For fuel or water then you can fit the maximum length of sender for your tank.

For a black water holding tank we recommend leaving at least 50mm from the bottom of the tank regardless of the material the tank is made from.

If you tank does not contain fuel, fresh water, grey water or black water then please contact us for more specific information. For very thick liquids like oil or grease we may need to know the viscosity.
